‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Kit Harrington finds more offseason work
Working on a series like “Game of Thrones” is in many ways an actor’s dream, especially when it comes to fulfilling the goal of doing just enough television work to make a living while pleasing your audience, and also allowing yourself enough time to pursue some other opportunities. After all, the season 3 filming period is right around five months, and even with that there are so many other characters in the cast that it allows for breaks to chase down other projects.
For Kit Harrington, he certainly looks to be taking advantage of this very thing. The actor is currently in Iceland shooting the remainder of his scenes as Jon Snow, but Variety reports that he is currently in talks to star in the upcoming movie “Pompeii,” which is being directed by “Resident Evil” mastermind Paul W.S. Anderson. (Ironically, Harrington just finished work on another video-game adaptation in “Silent Hill.”
Here is what the synopsis for this film is at this very moment:
“[Harrington plays] Milo, the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter. What Milo doesn’t know is that she’s already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s been sold to another owner in Naples. Just when things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts, prompting Milo to head back to Pompeii to rescue his love and his best friend, a gladiator who’s trapped in the city’s coliseum.”
Harrington has been a hot commodity away from “Game of Thrones” as of late, as he was at one point set to star in an “Arthur & Lancelot” movie that later was shelved. It it his performance as Jon that is part of the reason for his success? Sure, but you also have to credit such things as his overall acting ability and the ease in which he conveys facial expressions.
Don’t worry, though: there is seemingly no chance that any project Harrington takes on would keep him away from any future work on the HBO series, as he is under contract, and we also imagine that he wants to finish what he started here, anyway.
