Election 2012: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder makes his mark
We’re not so much interested in sharing a comprehensive list of celebrities to you who are going out to vote on Election Day Tuesday, largely due to the fact that most of them will do so and it is a bit of a waste of everyone’s time. Instead, what we are hoping to show here is some of the passion that a select few have to get the vote out even while simultaneously working on one of the most popular shows on network TV. Yes, we are talking about “The Vampire Diaries,” and how Ian Somerhalder is working on a social-media blitz in support of incumbent President Barack Obama.
What is interesting about Somerhlader in particular is that rather than just handing out a list of general voting locations or saying that he is voting for Obama, he seems just as interested in promoting the democratic process: whether it be by sharing links to voting locations, informing people not to tweet photos of their ballots (which can result in them becoming void), and also showing his devotion to the cause by voting on the same day as a lengthy shoot on his CW series is happening.
Somerhalder (who has met President Obama in the past) was actually invited to Chicago for the evening where Obama will give either a celebratory or concession speech, but was unable to attend due to his present work commitments. While It is clear where Ian leans politically, there are TV stars across the board who have been willing to share their thoughts: Patricia Heaton of “The Middle,” “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks, and legendary “Walker, Texas Ranger” star Chuck Norris are avid Mitt Romney supporters, while Obama has had the support of such people as “Glee” stars and Neil Patrick Harris of “How I Met Your Mother.”
Do celebrity endorsements matter to you when it comes to Presidential Elections, or do you just admire that people like Somerhalder are going the extra mile?
