‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9, episode 5 preview: Meredith gets mad (video)

Never underestimate the reluctance of bystanders to actually get involved with anything, even if it is something that could end up saving someone’s life. If there is one thing that we really take from the new sneak peek for Thursday night’s new “Grey’s Anatomy” season 9 episode, it’s this.

In the clip (which comes to us via TVLine and SpoilerTV), Meredith has a rather nasty flashback to her time watching Lexie die as she sees a cyclist struggling to stay alive while crushed underneath a car. Quickly realizing that this woman could die without immediate medical attention, she tries to get someone else to help her move the car off of the body. The problem? No one seems altogether interested in doing so, since they claim that the paramedics are on the way, and they do not want to do anything to go against the orders not to touch anything.

What remains most curious about this scene is this: is this woman’s life really in immediate danger, or is Meredith reacting more here out of panic and post-traumatic stress based on what happened with Lexie? The worst thing that could happen to her is if something bad did happen to this woman thanks to her attempts to move the car, and she has this death firmly on her hands despite efforts to be a good Samaritan.

Thursday night’s episode is entitled “Beautiful Doom,” and this could really just be the tip of the iceberg of what will be coming our way during this dramatic episode. Meredith’s story will remain front and center throughout the hour, but we will also be hearing from Cristina about her struggles to get along in her new working environment, and some of the damage to her heart created both by her split from Owen and the same plane crash that Meredith and Lexie went through. It’s going to be a doozy.

Do you think that this woman is in as much danger as Meredith thinks?
