Pearson canceled; no season 2 for Gina Torres-led Suits spin-off
Unfortunately, Pearson is heading off the air the same year as its flagship show in Suits.
Today, it was confirmed via USA that the Gina Torres-led spin-off show is canceled after just one batch of episodes, and also with ratings that were around half of Suits proper in the 18-49 demographic. Pearson was a risky gambit from the get-go, given that Jessica Pearson had already been gone for a little while from Suits at the time of the series premiere, and to go along with that, she was more of a supporting character on the main show than the lead. It was also about the world of Chicago politics, and there may be a sense in 2019 that a lot of people are getting enough politics elsewhere.
Are we still sad to see the show go? Absolutely. Torres is fantastic, and Pearson had a great supporting cast that got stronger and stronger as it went along. Like many new shows, it took a few episodes to find its rhythm, but unfortunately, its problems were present from the start. It wasn’t able to get enough diehard Suits fans to watch from the get-go, and it also struggled to get viewers who were outside the franchise. This is the struggle with spin-offs sometimes in that there are only so many people who may be initially interested, and you gotta find a way to get as many of them on board as possible if you want to tread some early water.

Could there be another Suits spin-off? It feels unlikely, but we still think it’s best to take a never-say-never approach. The finale just ended in a way that felt satisfying for a lot of core characters, and it would be hard to do a show with Donna/Harvey now that they are off with Mike/Rachel. We don’t exactly think that Meghan Markle is returning to acting anytime soon…
