Bachelor in Paradise stars Demi Burnett, Kristian Haggerty break up

Demi Burnett

Mrs. Carter: Just over a month following the conclusion of the latest Bachelor in Paradise season, Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty are done.

In a new post on Instagram today, the sad news was confirmed by both Burnett and Haggerty. They each issued the same statement, saying that this is best time to “take a step back” from the relationship that began before this past season of the show even began. When Demi and Kristian first kicked off their relationship, it made Bachelor Nation history as the first same-sex couple to be properly featured on the franchise. They were a selling point for much of this past season, and there were a number of people out there rooting for the two of them to get together.

Demi and Kristian are both very aware of the groundswell of support that they received on the show, and they are hoping that they are going to be able to inspire other people still to live their best lives. One of the important things to remember here is that the two may have been the first exposure that a lot of people had to a couple like them on television.

This week has proven to be a rocky one when it comes to Bachelor Nation couples. The end of the relationship between Demi and Kristian follows up on John Paul Jones and Tayshia Adams, who were not engaged but left the show together.

The new season of The Bachelor, starring Peter Weber, premieres on the show next year.

What has always been at the forefront of our relationship is love and care for one another. Our priority is doing what is best for us. With a heavy heart full of love for one another we have decided it is best for us to take a step back from our relationship. We ultimately want what is best for us in the long run and for us right now, that means being apart and growing individually. We have felt so much love and support from you all as you’ve followed our journey together and for that we are grateful. We will forever be proud of the impact our love story has made and we hope it has helped others feel more accepted and confident within themselves. We hope it reminded others they aren’t alone and don’t need to be ashamed of who they are. And we hope it shows that two people can love one another in different ways and for us right now that is apart. But we remain committed to encouraging each other, supporting each other and continuing forward in a way best for us.
