Mayans MC reportedly losing Kurt Sutter, future at FX in doubt

Earlier this year, we reported that the former Sons of Anarchy showrunner would be stepping down from his co-showrunner position here. This was a move that he was voluntarily making, as he wanted to hand over control to co-creator Elgin James while still maintaining some involvement. Yet, a new report from Deadline notes today that Sutter will be off the show entirely moving forward, and in a move that the publication is calling “acrimonious.” The site also added that the EP sent a message to the cast informing them that he was “fired.”
As for the future of his overall deal with FX and, therein, parent company Disney, there are still questions over that. As a matter of fact, we still have questions aplenty over what got us to this point. The aforementioned report claims that the exit is due to conflicts over some of the people being considered for a larger role in season 3 — it doesn’t appear that there are internal issues between Sutter and James, but this a developing situation. We know that Kurt is protective over this franchise and understandably so — his work also means a lot to FX, as Sons of Anarchy was for many years their biggest show and it remains one of the most important series in the network’s history. We also cannot forget about Sutter’s contributions to The Shield, another incredibly significant show for the network.
We’re hoping that Sutter’s vision still appears throughout the remainder of Mayans MC, a great continuation of the SOA brand, even if he does not.
