The hooded figure is going to be a key mystery for everything that plays out moving forward — the general assumption worth making is that their identity will be a game-changer, and eventually come to stir things up in the world of Mystic Falls and beyond.
Unfortunately, here is the bad news — you’re not going to find out their identity right away. Heck, you may not even find out their identity for the next few weeks! Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec notes that the creative team is not in that much of a hurry to unveil who this person is:
It’s a mystery that plays out for a good stretch that has a pretty great reveal attached to it, right about the time for the midseason cliffhanger.
In other words, this is someone who, entering the new year, will be a major force to be reckoned with. It’s clear that the writers don’t want to unveil too much right away, given that there are some other issues that need to be tended to in the immediate future — think along the lines here of learning how Hope can be able to be remembered by all of her friends. That has to be priority #1, and everything else can fall in line in some fashion beyond that.
With the hooded figure, what we think that Legacies is, rather smartly, doing is stacking their metaphorical deck. They’re giving you something to be excited about here for later this season, in addition to giving you something to be excited about in the short-term. Therefore, no matter where, when, or how you are watching the series, you will be entertained and have something to wonder about.
