Blue Bloods season 10 episode 4 sneak peek: A debate over victories

Blue Bloods season 10

What does it mean in order to score a victory within the world of Blue Bloods? That’s the subject of the latest sneak peek for Friday’s episode, and also a big-time discussion at the Reagans’ family dinner.

What is the basis of this preview? We think that it has a lot to do with what Nicky is thinking about in terms of her future — finding a job that makes her happy, and something that she thinks she can feel satisfied doing at the end of just about every day. If you recall, on this past episode Nicky announced that she was going cross-country for a meeting with a tech company.

This family dinner scene doesn’t actually make it clear one way or another if Nicky has a new job, but she is clearly seeking something. After she talks a little bit about the idea of true happiness, the Reagans then proceed to pour some cold water all over this particular idea. Why is that? It has a lot to do with the tough nature of the job of being a cop. Sometimes, you can arrest a bad guy, but you still get criticism for it by people proclaiming that they are innocent. At other points, you save a life — but it can end up leading to taking a life, as well.

The point that Danny, Frank, and others make is that sometimes, they have to finish the day knowing that they’ve made the world a little bit safer … and that’s the only real satisfaction that they have. There is no true, absolute happiness for them and they just have to embrace what little they have. This becomes their way of waking up and getting back out on the grind again. It’s a little thing, but in law enforcement, you rarely get to do things that are absolute goods and are praised by everyone.
