NBC’s ‘The Office’: Brian Baumgartner joins Angela Kinsey, others with new pilot
Who knew that so many stars from “The Office” were going to be so interested in getting their own shows? We’ve told you recently about how Angela Kinsey and Craig Robinson are each in the process at the moment of starring in some new projects, and you can now add the man famous for Kevin Malone to the mix.
According to a new report from Deadline, Brian Baumgartner is teaming up with his current executive producer Greg Daniels on a new ABC comedy pilot that will revolve around an airline executive (not a CEO, but someone a little down the chain of command) who is desperate to find something that they can succeed at in life. “Parks and Recreation” supervising producer Harris Wittels is also hard at work developing the project.
If there is any actor who certainly deserves everything that comes his way, it’s Baumgartner, who has consisted played Kevin with great humor despite his character more or less just becoming a caricature in recent years of what he used to be. Remember Scrantonicity, or the fact that he once had an interesting romantic life? We miss when Kevin was known for more than just being an idiot who likes to eat things, and it already sounds like he will be doing so much more in this pilot.
With that being said, there are some hurdles this show needs to come in order to make it to air. First things first, there is the fact that ABC has quite a bit on its plate at the moment when it comes to comedies, even if we foresee some of them not lasting for very long. In addition to that, Baumgartner is not an enormous star, but Mindy Kaling managed to get “The Mindy Project” greenlit without her necessarily being a household name.
