The Affair season 5 episode 6 sneak peek: Joanie looks at Allison’s file

On Sunday night’s The Affair season 5 episode 6, what you’re going to behold is a story all about Allison — as told through Joanie. She’s in Montauk, she’s done some exploring already, and all of a sudden now, she’s digging a little bit further into her late mother’s past.

In the video below from this episode, you can see Joanie, with the help of EJ, dig through some old files when it comes to Allison and what happened. She looks at the cause of death, statements from those who knew her (including one Noah Solloway), and also the psychological profile that hints at a history of suicidal behavior. All of this information points primarily to her death being a suicide. There’s an understandable reason why so much is being assumed as a result of the evidence that is there.

Yet, we know from the previews already that Joanie is not going to be satisfied with this information. Something is off with what she finds and, as a result of this, it does lead to her eventually posing an extremely important question: Is Ben responsible? She’s going to find out about some key information soon that sends her down this road. We love the promotion that Showtime has chosen to hand out for The Affair, but at the same time, it’s clear at this point that some of it may have given away too much. Because of this, we know a good bit about where Joanie’s story is at the moment — there are just still questions in regards to where it will go in the end.

For her sake, we’re hoping that there is a sense of greater closure. She deserves to know what happened not just from the vantage point of justice, but also her own state of mind. That could offer up some release and give her a greater sense of where her life could go — it may not repeat in anywhere close to the same way, as she fears.
