Is Bring the Funny renewed for season 2, canceled at NBC?
At the moment, the network has not confirmed the future fate of Bring the Funny one way or another … but we remain cautiously optimistic that there is going to be a chance to see a little bit more of it in the future. After all, we don’t imagine that NBC has sky-high expectations for some of its summer reality series, and all things considered, averaging a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic is pretty good for this time of year. The same goes for over over 4 million live viewers a week. We don’t think that this is something to sneeze at.
So, for now, we think that there are reasons for hope that NBC brings the show back, but there may need to be changes for it to get more attention. Think about — even though Bring the Funny had a combination of Chrissy Teigen, Jeff Foxworthy, and Kenan Thompson on the show as panelists, at the same time it still couldn’t do all that much to stand out within the sea of shows that are out there.
We’ll be honest — we actually think that the best way to evolve Bring the Funny would be to make it into a show about the search for the next great Saturday Night Live cast member. Sure, you would have to reduce and change a part of what this show is — but in a way, it feels like this could be good both for this show and also SNL. You’d be able to attach this to an established brand, bring forward even more quality talent, and SNL would have a good sense of who they were hiring before they even did a typical audition. Maybe it would save them from another Shane Gillis sort of crisis, where it feels like they could’ve learned the truth about him had they done a little bit more asking around.
In the end, we’ll see what happens when it comes to a Bring the Funny season 2 — we’re all for more original reality programming, but we’re also all for ways to bring it to the next level.
