Is Grand Hotel renewed for season 2, canceled at ABC? Renewal odds

Is Grand Hotel renewed for a season 2 over at ABC, or should we expect it to be canceled? In the wake of tonight’s finale, we recognize that there will be people out there who want to see this place keep its doors open for a while longer. Yet, it’s all up to the network to gauge all of its numbers and come up with a decision that is best for the show’s future. Within this article, we’ll do our best to gauge that in advance of their decision.

Before we say too much else, let’s get big-picture on the subject of the future right now — as of right now, we’d say the odds of the series coming back for more are 50-50. We’re far more optimistic about it than another ABC show in Reef Break, but this network has a tendency to cut summer shows within a short period of time.

While live+same-day ratings are not the only thing that ABC is looking at, they do matter greatly — for Grand Hotel, the first season has averaged to date a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and over 2.7 million viewers. The ratings are slightly stronger in the demo for Grand Hotel than Take Two, a show that ABC canceled last year after a summer run. However, the ratings are more or less even when it comes to total viewers. If the demo does matter, the fact that Grand Hotel has performed a little bit better gives us a little bit of hope. Yet, it may have also been expected to perform better given that it’s had some good lead-ins all summer in The Bachelorette and then Bachelor in Paradise.

Odds are, Grand Hotel will have a cliffhanger that makes people excited for another season. Could that influence the renewal chances slightly? We have to think that it’s a possibility. Odds are, ABC will think about what they want to do with the future of the show over the next couple of months; if they want it to premiere in the summer of 2020 again, they’d need to give the writers time to come up with more scripts so that the cast can get back on set to film.
