Is Good Trouble new tonight on Freeform? Season 2 & the future
Yet, we’re not going to be able to explore it tonight, though we do have questions in regards to Callie’s unstable future, the status of Mariana’s relationships, and whether or not Dennis and Davia have a chance to be together. This is the sort of show that has so many different irons in the fire that there’s always something more to address … and we haven’t even gotten to Malika and everything that’s been going on for her in her work as an activist.
Unfortunately, there is no Good Trouble coming onto Freeform tonight, and nor will there be for the remainder of the summer. Last week was meant to be the “summer finale” — not the end of the season, but just the last episode for a while. As reported last week, there will be a Christmas Special coming for Good Trouble later this year that will allow for some merriment … but also probably a continuation of some of these storylines. That is one of the central struggles of this upcoming special: How much time do you give to very time-specific plots? If you want the special to feel timeless, you don’t want to go overboard with threads very specific to where we are in the series right now.
On the other side of the upcoming holiday special, there will be another part of season 2 with more episodes that will further along the story. That’s something that Freeform will announce more news on later this season and then after that, we’ll see whatever the future of the show is. Good Trouble is in an interesting spot in that story-wise, there is always going to be material and plenty of stuff worth discussing. The question is whether or not the audience is there. The ratings for this show have fallen far behind what we were seeing back when The Fosters was on the air, and while a lot of its performance may be digital, it’s hard to chart all of that up when Freeform isn’t specifying many of the numbers.
