‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: More on Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh episode

As you have probably heard already, the upcoming fifth episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” this season is going to be taking a little bit of a detour from what we have come to know and appreciate from the show. How much so? Instead of keeping the focus on everyone in the hospital, almost all of the emphasis will be put instead on two people: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh). In many ways, this does make some sense considering everything that they have to work through. In addition to both dealing still with the aftermath of the plane crash, there’s also the issue of living in separate cities as well as Cristina’s tough relationship with Owen.

Now, we do have some sort of official synopsis (via SpoilerTV) that gives us a few more details about the episode, while at the same time confirming much of what we said above:

“As Meredith and Cristina rely on each other as they cope with increasing responsibilities at their respective hospitals and cope with life after the plane crash; Cristina helps Dr. Thomas with a challenging heart surgery.”

If you love it when “Grey’s Anatomy” does choose to show off more of its emotional side, you better get ready to start pulling out your hankies already. When you consider the fact that the episode coming up on Thursday night is supposed to be a little bit more light-hearted, you have to be ready for the fact that this will be probably be one of the most emotional hours that the show pulls out all season long.
