Grey’s Anatomy season 16 filming: Jesse Williams’ return; what’s to come

In a post below via Jesse Williams’ Instagram, you can see him preparing for his big return to the show and to the Jackson Avery character. For Jackson, we know that this is going to be a rough start to the season. At the end of season 15, he vanished almost into thin air amidst the heavy fog — there were questions aplenty that he would be killed off on the other side, but then Williams signed a new deal to return. It doesn’t seem that the character is going anywhere, but that is also no guarantee that he is safe and immune from whatever trouble is coming his way.
As a matter of fact, isn’t it better for Williams as an actor if he does have to tackle some difficult stuff as this character? As an actor, you want nothing more than to do material that stands out from the pack — and we imagine that is especially the case if you are someone who has been a part of the show for as long as he has. Jackson’s been through a lot of highs and lows, but there may be a part of him that is still trying to find out who he wants to be. Think of things in this sense — his mother recently underwent a health battle, Harper Avery’s legacy is in tatters, and he’s still dealing with a lot of conflict when it comes to his relationship with Maggie. There is just as much of a fog in his life at the moment as there is outside in Seattle.
We know that Grey’s Anatomy is already doing some night shoots for the season; that suggests that we’ll see the new season pick up presumably with some characters out in the wilderness, possibly looking to see what happened to Jesse’s character.
