American Horror Story: 1984 promo: Welcome to Camp Redwood

Leading up to its premiere on FX on Wednesday, September 18, the network has just released the first American Horror Story: 1984 promos. What’s great about them? Well, for starters, that they are exactly what you would expect so be ready for some creepy fun!

From the moment that the new season was announced, the idea was that this was going to be an homage to old slasher movies and summer-camp thrillers — the sort of thing where characters go to a cabin or a lake or somewhere remote where they drink and do debaucherous things right before a crazed killer starts picking them all off. Or, in the case of these promos, that there was someone hiding under a car or someone in the water ready to hack and slash! There are meant to be some scares within this show, and we can sense already two different questions be asked — who is doing the killing and why are they doing the killing?

Depending on how this story is told, it’s possible that there could be some sort of mystery-movie component here to go along some of the horror. The real thrill of watching to us is getting the opportunity to see these genres mashed together alongside the spirit and fun of the era. It’s so insane to think that 1984 was 35 years ago. American Horror Story may be better off titling this season American Horror Story: Let’s Make Our Viewers feel old.

This season is going to feature a combination of new and familiar faces. You are going to see people like Emma Roberts and John Carroll Lynch who have been featured within the franchise before, but then also newcomers including Olympian Gus Kenworthy and then also Glee alum Matthew Morrison making his first prominent appearance within the American Horror Story franchise. There may be more surprises still to come — Sarah Paulson will not be a major part of this season, but all signs point towards her at least making a cameo.

Given how big and how crazy this past season of American Horror Story was, we’re hoping this time around for something a little bit more centered and grounded. Not everything within this show needs to be insane all the time.
