Pearson episode 3 preview: Jessica faces off with McGann
Through the first two episodes, what we’ve seen from Jessica Pearson in this world is that she’s got so much skill … but also so much more to learn. She comes into Chicago politics from a place of power and through that, she has to learn more empathy. This is a world that isn’t always high-powered; you’ve got government employees here who work long hours and for very little money. They’re there strictly for the greater good and they don’t fully understand or appreciate someone with Jessica’s history coming out of nowhere and serving as a fixer-of-sorts for the Mayor of Chicago.
While Pearson does have some of the trademark Suits, DNA, it does have its own voice — it’s a little darker than the flagship show and a little more varied in terms of its cast. It does still need to do more when it comes to building its audience, though, as the ratings for the first episode left a little something to be desired … at least in terms of the live numbers. If it stays steady for the rest of the season, maybe it can find a second life. We’ll have better chances to discuss the ratings in due time — it’s a little more premature to take it on too much after just one episode.

Jessica goes head to head with McGann, who doesn’t like her challenging his alderman appointee.
So far, what we’ve seen from Jessica this season is that she is someone who isn’t afraid to clash with people in power — with that in mind, we can’t say we’re surprised to see her going at McGann here. This is where she can test her ability to see the larger picture in the midst of surrounding chaos.
Based on what we saw tonight, Jessica’s willing to throw a few curveballs out there. She will do things that no one expects, mostly because of her ability to play the long game.
