Confirmed: Henry Ian Cusick leaving The 100, Marcus Kane role

The 100 season 6

We knew that this moment was coming, but on Tuesday night’s new episode of The 100it was finally made official: Henry Ian Cusick is leaving the show. He had a fantastic run on the series over the past six years, but his time in the role of Marcus Kane has come to a close.

The end of Cusick’s time on the series has been a long time coming, and also easily predicted by what’s been going on with the actor. In between his work on The Passage and then also him joining MacGyver season 4 (which recently began filming), the writing was on the wall. He wouldn’t be able to continue to jump between various shows that weren’t filming in anywhere near the same location. The Lost veteran was a real casting coup for The 100 in the first place, and that is something that show executive producer Jason Rothenberg acknowledged in a message on Tuesday night:

“I have to say it was a pleasure and an honor to have [Cusick] on our show for the past 6 years … The guy classed up the joint. Really helped us make the point that we were not a teen show. Not that there’s anything wrong with teen shows. Anyway, we will miss him.”

Meanwhile, Cusick himself added the following:

“All things end and that’s was Kane’s. Thanks to [Rothenberg] and all the cast crew writers directors of [The 100] but especially to you [Kabby] and [Kane] supporters, your passion and support over the years has been truly wonderful and I love you guys for that! May we meet again X.”

Cusick is far from the first actor to depart the series, and the ever-changing nature of The 100’s cast is indicative of the world in which this show inhabits. It’s a place that is wild and dangerous, one where characters die. This show brings you many different themes, but we have to feel as though the frailty of life is one of the larger ones we get, time and time again.
