Outlander video: Watch Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe’s full Emmy panel
Late yesterday, Starz officially uploaded the full event, which took place at Westfield Century City, on their official YouTube channel for the show. The panel runs for more than 30 minutes (with some clips included), and through most of it you get a good sense as to what went into crafting the epic fourth season of the show. There’s talk about production, there’s talk about specific challenges, and of course, there are plenty of opportunities to discuss performances. Sam and Caitriona are both there alongside Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, and they talk through a lot of the most notable moments from the fourth season and how they worked tirelessly in order to make them happen.
If you are a CarterMatt reader already, you know how we feel about this season as a whole. There are so many great moments jam-packed in there, including performances that take your breath away. Just look at almost the entire cast in the episode “The Birds & the Bees” (the Brianna – Roger meeting episode), or some of the physical stuff that Rankin does a little bit closer to the end of the season. You see them pour their hearts out into making sure that these people are not only well-developed but also well-rounded to go along with it. You want to root for all of them, but one of the big reasons why is because they’re so relatable and raw. They do things here or there that isn’t exactly what you would want them to do, but that’s because they’re human.
For those of you who are wanting some conversation on season 5, there’s a little bit of teasing in here about it … but not too much. This isn’t a season 5 promotional interview, after all. This was designed so that the entire cast could get in front of the Television Academy voters and try to sell them on why this show and its talent are worthy of a nomination. It took place as a part of a much larger Starz exhibition that the network put on for many of their different shows. Starz for some reason hasn’t broken through as much in terms of the Emmys as they deserve, especially when you think about Outlander, Power, The Spanish Princess, and a lot of the other shows that they have put on the air over the past several years.
The excursion for Sam, Caitriona, and the cast was pretty short-lived in Los Angeles, as they are now back overseas and presumably back at work filming the show once more. We know the production is probably going to last through at least close to the end of the year.
Are you glad that Starz put this video online? Be sure to stare in the comments below.
