Descendants 3 premiere date, new music video revealed

Descendants 3

Later this summer, Disney Channel is busting out Descendants 3, and hopefully in the process, giving their movie franchise another shot of life.

In a statement today, the network announced that the third iteration of the series will premiere on Friday, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and go along with that, they’ve also released a new music video entitled “Good to Be Bad,” which you can check out at the bottom of this particular article. A number of familiar faces from the first two movies are returning, including Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson, and many more. Think of this movie as bringing together some old favorites while also some newcomers to the franchise.

Without a doubt, Descendants has proven to be one of the most successful movie franchises of its kind for Disney Channel. What it’s done is fundamentally brilliant from the start. It has brought on board the children of a number of iconic Disney villains and found a new way to reinvent them — and offer them a choice as to their own morality. It is capitalizing on the strength of mini established franchises that Disney already has, but creating something that’s new and exciting in its own right. Some of these characters could then be used for something more down the line, provided that’s, of course, a direction that the network wants to go down.

If you’re wanting some specifics as to the plot of Descendants 3, they go a little bit something like this:

“[The main characters] will cross the barrier and return to their birthplace, the Isle of the Lost, to bring four deserving Villain Kids to the coveted Auradon Prep in a land where they have a chance at success, happiness and fulfillment … But, it’s Mal who knows she must resolve to permanently close the barrier to the Isle of the Lost, fearing that nemeses Uma and Hades will wreak vengeance on her new home, the idyllic kingdom now ruled by her beloved King Ben. Despite her decision, an unfathomable dark force still threatens the people of Auradon, and Mal and her friends face their biggest challenge yet.”

For the record, Cheyenne Jackson is playing Hades and we’re incredibly excited about this very fact.

Will this movie end up being as commercially successful as the first two? It’s certainly a great question, with one of the big setbacks potentially being that over time, Disney channel does tend to lose viewers who age out of the core demographic. It’s because of this that Descendants 3 has to rely a little bit more on nostalgia then perhaps the first two did. It not only needs to win over some really young fans but also convince people who watched the first two years ago to come back and continue the viewing experience. There’s no guarantee that they will, but we do certainly think that this will still find a good deal of success.

What do you think about this new Descendants 3 music video, and are you more excited than ever to see what’s coming up a little bit later on in the summer? Be sure to say or in the comments below.
