Bring It Back 2019 results: Shadowhunters, Santa Clarita Diet make finale
Over the past few days, we’ve had people from all over the world voting in CarterMatt’s Bring It Back semifinals in order to determine which show you want to see return for another batch of episodes in the 2019-20 season. This is the second year that we’ve done this, and this time around, we’ve timed it to be perfectly in line with some of the cancellations that have come out this month — by far, the most painful one for all series.
Ironically, the two series that are moving forward to the finals from the second semifinal heat are shows that have been regrettably canceled for a while.
Shadowhunters – This just in — fans of Shadowhunters are passionate, and with more than 2000 votes, the one-time Freeform series is now getting a chance to stake a claim for the title. We don’t really have to spend a whole lot of time spelling out why this show deserves to be back for more — we do think there’s a whole lot more story to tell within the Shadow World, but beyond just that, this is a show that means so much to so many people out there. It’s got a loving, passionate, and caring fanbase who champions it at just about every single turn, and we don’t ever see that changing.
At the moment, there isn’t any movement when it comes to actually getting a season 4 somewhere — but we don’t think, with a show like this and a passionate fandom who believes in it so much, that you can ever really say goodbye to the possibility that there will be more.
Santa Clarita Diet – Meanwhile, here we’ve got the one pure-on comedy that is making it to the final round! Netflix, unfortunately, axed the Timothy Olyphant – Drew Barrymore series after one of the biggest cliffhangers of the year and because of that, we’re now left to sit around and wonder precisely what happened to Joel … which is sad because we love Joel and just about every insane thing that comes out of his mouth. We haven’t really heard all that much at all about another potential home for the show, likely because with its subject matter, the roster of suitable homes is fairly small. What we’ve long been hoping is that Netflix will realize that they need at least one more chapter of the Hammonds’ story, whether it be a movie or a shortened final season. It’s worked before (see Sense8); why can’t it also happen here?
As for the other competition…
For now, Shadowhunters and Santa Clarita Diet are going to be competing against Timeless and Whiskey Cavalier. Why say “for now”? That’s really just tied to the fact that as of right now, ABC is considering reviving Whiskey Cavalier for a second season. If it does get revived between now and when the finals start tomorrow morning, Gotham (which received the next-highest votes among the semifinalists) will take its place.
