Bring It Back 2019 results: Timeless, Whiskey Cavalier advance to final round

The results are officially in for the first of two rounds for CarterMatt’s Bring It Back 2019 tournament, and they absolutely spell out some great news for a couple of fan bases who are eager for more of their favorite show.

Let’s begin here, of course, with none other than Timeless. Even though the NBC got its form of a series finale in the form of a two-hour movie late last year, there is almost certainly a whole lot more story to tell within this world. As a matter of fact, we know that there is. Just think in terms of the closing seconds of the movie, where it was very-much clear that someone else may have the plans for a time machine of their own. There are always going to be scientists and thinkers who want to come up with a way to manipulate time, and there are always going to be those who want to ensure that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Season 3 could easily build on this idea, and right when Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus, and the rest of the Time Team think that they are very much done with this part of their lives, something brings them right back in.

While Timeless was the leading vote-getter in this particular round of the semifinals, remember what we said all along: Two entrants will be moving forward to the final round. That means another show is joining the time-travel epic, and that show just so happens to be Whiskey Cavalier. The timing for it couldn’t be more perfect, given that this news is coming right before the final episode is set to air on ABC.

Is it possible that the network could un-cancel it, much in the way that NBC did Timeless for season 2? Sure, but judging from what ABC said at upfronts last week, that seems unlikely. It’s a little more possible that another network or streaming provider comes in and tries to work something out with the show. It’s facing an uphill battle, but we feel like, after watching years of television and shows getting saved from the brink, it does certainly feel like almost anything is possible. We’re certainly in a position now where we are buying into that perhaps more than ever before.

Now, you just have to prepare yourselves for the final round of the Bring It Back Tournament, and it will be starting on Friday, May 24 and run from there until the end of the month. Timeless and Whiskey Cavalier are going to face off against two more shows (which will be revealed tomorrow), and one of them will be declared champion and the show most in need of saving. Hopefully, this series helps to get people all the more enthusiastic — there’s nothing people love more than a great underdog story, and there are certainly plenty of them out there with potential.
