NCIS season 16 finale ratings rise; Blood & Treasure has so-so start
Overall, last night’s big episode — which featured the shock return of Cote de Pablo as Ziva in the closing minutes — ended up generating a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic coupled with close to 12 million viewers. These are the best numbers for the series since the end of March, and we do certainly think that they could’ve been even higher if viewers knew that the Ziva surprise was coming. Nonetheless, we’re glad that nobody did — a big part of the fun of the episode was the surprise at the end, and if they had leaked that in some shape or form, it would’ve likely caused the finale to have so much less of a pop (even if it did produce better ratings).
Now that it has been confirmed that Cote will be a part of the upcoming season 17 premiere, we are absolutely thrilled to see what some of those numbers are going to be in September. One other thing worth noting — NCIS actually managed to be the #1 show of the night in both viewers and the demo, even over The Voice — which is hardly the ratings titan that it once was.
As for Blood & Treasure…
We were very much curious to see how the premiere for CBS’ summer show would fare, given that it did have a fantastic lead-in and this was an opportunity for it to establish some sort of footing moving forward through the rest of the summer.
So what were the end results? Well, a little bit mixed. While it started off with an impressive 0.7 rating in the demo and then also over 6.4 million viewers, these numbers fell to a 0.5 and just under 5 million viewers for the second hour. If it keeps the ratings for the second hour the rest of the season, that’s not too shabby for a scripted summer show these days; yet, there’s no guarantee viewers are going to keep watching when there is no NCIS around to help prop the show up or give it a little bit more in the way of good numbers. This is a show that we’re certainly going to monitor for the rest of the season.
