The Voice season 17 coaches, premiere date, suggested format tweaks
Let’s start off with the thing that is currently 100% confirmed — the coach lineup! There’s nothing that is changing from season 16 to 17, as John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton will all be able to the same position that they were once in. We can’t really blame the coaches for all wanting to come back, given that this is an incredibly-cushy gig that pays extremely well and while it may be a reasonable amount of work, it allows you to expose your personality and music to millions of people, including those outside of your typical demographic. Blake’s been one of the big winners in this field over the years — at the time the show started, he was mostly just known within country circles. Now, you can argue that he is one of the ten most famous male vocalists in the entire country, with many people being more familiar with his personality than even his music.
Of course, we should also pose another important question as we try to look towards the future — is it really a good thing to have the same coaches every time? Adam and Blake aren’t the draws that they once were, and with Adam in particular, it still seems like he’s dealing with the controversy from last season where he fought to keep a sick Reagan Strange around over one of his other team members. We’re not sure that Adam is as appealing a coach anymore to some of these contestants. We’re now advocating for his removal per se, but at some point, it could benefit NBC to try and shake up the full lineup.

When will The Voice season 17 premiere?
Probably in late September, around the same time that it always does. We’re sure that format-wise, it will be reasonably similar to the show that it’s been before, but there are a few changes that we really hope that they will make moving forward. For starters, we’d nix the Cross Battle idea, which was fun in theory but it just led to Blake dominating most of the season. We’d actually shorten the length of the Blind Auditions so that each team was a little smaller from the get-go, that way there were shorter Battle Rounds/Knockouts (if there are still Knockouts) and more live shows with a smaller field.
At this point, the #1 problem with The Voice is that you don’t really know all that much about the contestants. Can you name more than just a few things about any of the finalists this season? We really can’t, and that’s a problem since you want at least one of these people to potentially be a star. That’s always been the #1 issue with this show, as you get a chance to know the coaches, but there’s really not enough time put into the individuals. That’s gotta change at some point if this show is ever going to have a viable winner on the other side of it.
