The Voice iTunes results: Maelyn Jarmon’s ‘Hallelujah,’ Gyth Rigdon lead

Coming up on NBC tonight, The Voice finale is going to be here and with that, we’re going to have a chance to learn whether or not there is an unpredictable element to the results. Will Maelyn Jarmon actually win, as has been speculated by most of the internet? It’s easy to lead into that as the most-likely possibility, but we’ve certainly learned to not expect anything for certain with this show.

Based on the iTunes results, though, it does feel like we’re gearing up for a Maelyn win — but you also have to remember that iTunes isn’t the same voting factor it once was. Nonetheless, at the time of this writing Maelyn’s version of “Hallelujah” is sitting pretty at #1 on the charts. It was such a smart choice for her to do this song for the finale — it’s so recognizable and powerful. Even though it’s been recorded about a trillion different times by different people over the years, it always does manage to resonate emotionally in a way that very few other songs do. It’s really quite remarkable that it has the staying power that it does.

The good news for Maelyn doesn’t just stop there — after all, her original song “Wait for You” is sitting at #4, while her “Unforgettable” duet with John Legend is sitting at #8. The only other people in the top ten are Gyth Rigdon (whose “Proof I’ve Always Loved You” is at #5) and Andrew Sevener (whose “Rural Route Raising” is at #10) — neither one of them, though, have more than one song in the top ten. Maelyn’s got three.

Here’s the caveat

Ultimately, The Voice is not won by people buying your music online, though we would argue that commercial success should matter perhaps more than anything else. Even when iTunes results were a huge voting factor in determining the winner of The Voice, we found that Blake Shelton’s country artists would often get a ton of votes from the other factors and they could end up pulling some surprise results. Make no mistake that most of the internet seems to be on Team Maelyn, and we even think that to a certain extent, The Voice themselves would like to see her win. She’s vocally one of the best contestants that they’ve ever had, but they’re not going to just give her the title because of that. It’s really going to be all about what voters decide, and you really just have to hope that they are going to decide to do the right thing.
