The Fix season 2: Is it renewed, canceled? More discussion
So why was this show canceled? As is often the case here, it really comes down to a matter of ratings, and the numbers for this show just have left a little bit of something to be desired. We’re talking here about a show that brought in a 0.5 rating on average in the 18-49 demographic throughout the season — and it’s been a little bit lower than that as of late.
As for why the show didn’t work, one of the biggest things that went against it from the start was, strangely enough, the title — there just wasn’t anything in here that immediately grabbed viewers, and we do think that at a certain point, this was a problem. If you want to have a successful series, you have to be memorable, and apparently having Marcia Clark as an executive producer didn’t end up helping all that much.
We also do gotta tilt some blame here in the direction of ABC for their lead-ins, given that for a lot of the season, there was a real lack of interesting, notable stuff airing before it. Sure, it’s got a good lead-in via The Bachelorette now, but American Idol didn’t go on Mondays for the full season and, beyond just that, there was no spring cycle of Dancing with the Stars.
In general, though, we think ABC’s ratings problems with The Fix go beyond just the lead-in or anything that this particular story — for one reason or another, they continuously struggle with finding a way to get people watching and discussing their midseason shows. Look at the moment at Whiskey Cavalier or For the People — the latter for a second season, but that seemed to be based more on executive producer Shonda Rhimes’ presence than anything necessary that was within the fabric of the story.
Ultimately, we do hope that viewers out there liked the story of The Fix season 1 and that there’s going to be some satisfaction with the end of it. Luckily, we do think that the first season was devised to be an arc that offers up some satisfaction — hopefully, that’s going to be enough. The show may have had a lot going for it, but that’s not going to be enough to save it from the already-reported end.
