Outlander season 5: Aisha Tyler visits Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe on set

Outlander season 4

We know that Outlander season 5 is currently in production in Scotland. Yet, sometimes waiting for news is like wandering through the desert, searching for an oasis. There are only so many little chances to quench your thirst amidst the surrounding sand, and sometimes it takes something special to make water appear out of thin air.

Today, Aisha Tyler just so happens to be that water. In a new post on Instagram, Sam Heughan himself confirmed that Tyler paid a visit to the series’ set this week, which had to be an entertaining change of pace for all. Tyler could offer up some humor and levity, while also viewing the stomping grounds of one of TV’s most-passionate shows. Meanwhile, Sam and Caitriona Balfe could have a few fun conversations all about working in TV from someone who’s been doing it for quite some time.

One of the things that is so fun about Tyler’s career in generation is just the variety of it — she’s really done a little bit of everything! She’s been a post in primetime (Whose Line Is It Anyway?), a part of a daytime talk show panel on The Talk, a voice actor via Archer, and she recently wrapped Criminal Minds for the series. While there, she played the role of Dr. Tara Lewis, a brilliant woman whose understanding of (fittingly) the criminal mind proved essential for a lot of different cases.

Given that Sam mentioned her as just a guest on set, and she’s not in some sort of period costume, it’s fair to say that Aisha isn’t playing a role on the upcoming season … though it’d certainly be a lot of fun if she did.

Where is Outlander season 5 in filming right now?

There’s no official confirmation (there rarely is on such matters), but the hope is that they’re moving forward now into the second episode block, which would comprise the third and fourth episode if the block structure is similar to last year. Production’s moving forward at a steady pace, and it needs to be methodical. With all of its locations and various settings, patience is not only a virtue here, it’s a requirement. There are some long hours and late nights involved sometimes, so we’re sure that a quick pick-me-up courtesy of Aisha is appreciated.

Meanwhile, be sure to share in the comments what you’d do if you had a chance to visit the set on Outlander!
