Siren renewed for season 3 at Freeform; what lies ahead?

Siren - Freeform

Freeform has decided that they don’t want to wait any longer to make the Siren season 3 renewal official and we are beyond excited about this!

Earlier this morning, the network confirmed that they are bringing back the Eline Powell series for another batch of episodes, ones that will more than likely premiere at some point in 2020. This comes less than a month before the second half of season 2 premieres on the network. You can read a little bit more about when the series is returning here and know that CarterMatt will be bringing you reviews and previews all summer long (we love this show!).

So why is the network timing out the renewal this way? Well, it’s really so simple as them wanting to make sure that production isn’t pushed back and season 3 can be delivered on time. Because of the split-season manner in which Siren is being delivered, production on the next batch of episodes is going to be starting up this summer. If they waited until after the season 2 finale, we’d probably be waiting much longer to see the third season actually on the air. This keeps everything paced perfectly.

While we’re sure that Siren is one of Freeform’s pricier shows because of all of its special effects, at the same time it is also one of their more-popular ones in terms of adults 18-49 and women 18-49, two of their core demographics. In live numbers, it is averaging more than 500,000 viewers and also a 0.2 rating in the demo, those these numbers, of course, do balloon outward when you start to factor in some other metrics. Freeform is a heavily time-shifted network as a whole so the majority of its viewers are at this point watching some of their new episodes after the fact.

What could season 3 explore?

It’s obviously rather tough to really know without knowing what happens in the final half of season 2, but we’re hoping that it will offer up a chance to tie up that inssane cliffhanger revolving around Xander and calvin (we won’t say much more then that here in case you haven’t seen it yet – but it’s intense!). We do think that a big part of the emotional core of this series will be watching a sense of understanding blossom between those in the ocean and those on land, so hopefully, we’ll see more of a greater sense of cooperation. Of course, with that being said, just because some people are getting more comfortable around mermaids doesn’t mean that everyone will. After all, we do think that there’s a chance for conflict and there always will be just by the nature of this show itself.

More than likely, we’ll hear more in terms of a formal Siren season 3 premiere date at some point when we get around to the end of this year. We’ll have more updates coming up before long.
