‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert

For this Tuesday “American Idol” notes, we’re going to start things off with some pretty massive airplay achievements from Phillip Phillips: the man is really in rarefied air when it comes to just how well his single “Home” is doing on the radio.

It’s not so much the fact that the song is now #6 on the Mediabase Hot AC chart (otherwise known as Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs chart) that is most impressive; it’s that the song is still gaining spins even after all of the Olympics hype has died down. “Home” may still have a challenge reaching #1, but a spot in the top 4 really is not that far away at all. If you look back at some past “American Idol” contestants from season 5 on, there are only a small handful who have had this sort of airplay success with a single: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Jordin Sparks, and David Cook. The challenge for Phillip now will be coming up with another single that is just as good, as Adam and Jordin are really the only two that really managed to do this.

On the even-more-difficult Top 40 chart, Phillip’s track has already made it all the way up to #27, and you can really just add this to the plethora of other achievements with this song. “Home” is the first coronation song since David Cook to land a top ten debut on the Billboard Hot 100, and it has also sold more than a million records.

Carrie’s new CMA Awards promo – Just for fun, check out the latest promo featuring Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley for the 2012 CMA Awards below. The show airs on ABC November 1, and watching this makes us sad that Brad is not a judge on this upcoming season after he was rumored to be in talks.

An Adam Lambert reminder – Finally, we just wanted to put out there into the world that Adam Lambert’s new single “Trespassing” is now open for requests on the radio. So be sure to call in and ask for the song, that way we can have some chart talk here to go along with what we have for “Home.”
