NCIS season 16 episode 21 return date: Is Sean Murray leaving?
Let’s kick things off, though, with the sad news that you’re not going to be seeing a new episode of NCIS next week. Even though there are some new episodes for some other stuff, including NCIS: New Orleans, next week, you’ve gotta wait for the flagship show. It will be back with season 16 episode 21, entitled “Judge, Jury…,” on Tuesday, April 30, and it’s going to make you wonder a number of important questions.
Take, for starters, whether or not Murray is leaving the show as McGee. Judging from the synopsis below, there’s at least a cause for some concern:
“Judge, Jury…” – After entering cold case DNA into the system, Kasie solves a 30-year-old murder case, but a loophole in the legal system may set the suspect free. Also, McGee visits an elite technology company in Silicon Valley that is offering him a highly paid position, on NCIS, Tuesday, April 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

There’s one thing a little odd about McGee’s job offer — how is it coming at the same time as Eric Beale on NCIS: Los Angeles getting one in the same part of this country? Is there a secret spin-off being planned where McGee and Eric team up to solve the world’s technology problems? Well, probably not. This is more of a response to the events of “Once Upon a Tim,” the episode that aired a little bit earlier this year that carried with it a long discussion of McGee’s past and future.
For the record, our feeling is that McGee won’t be departing the series anytime soon … though a lot of this is based on the renewal announcement video that Wilmer Valderrama posted, one where Murray was thanking the cast for the renewal alongside Wilmer, Mark Harmon, and Emily Wickersham. Why celebrate a renewal for a show you’re not going to be a part of? Also, we haven’t heard anything about a Murray departure and we feel like if NCIS was going to give him the proper send-off that we got with Pauley Perrette, something probably would’ve been said by now.
One more bit of pertinent info…
This episode is going to be the first in a two-parter. We know that the title for episode 22 is “…and Executioner,” which links directly up against what we’re getting here. (We also have more details on that episode, which you can check out over at the link here.) What we’re basically trying to say at the moment is that you really shouldn’t be shocked if there’s no clear resolution to what’s going on in “Judge, Jury…” — and that eventually, the story of the mystery government bank account is going to be a part of the proceedings.
