Shadowhunters season 3 episode 17 promo: Malec proposal hopes!

Shadowhunters season 3 episode 17 next week is an episode that you’re going to be chomping at the bit to see, and for a mighty-good reason. Think of things this way: This is the episode where Malec could be engaged. That’s, of course, if Alec Lightwood gets everything that he wants with the big proposal and it goes off without a hitch.

We know with Alec that he’s going to be down to make the moment as romantic as possible, given that simple that that he loves Magnus and through everything that the two have been through as of late, there’s nothing that he would want more than trying to deliver a wonderful, romantic moment where all of the struggles could fall away and leave the two with a little bit of peace and serenity. Being engaged would obviously be a moment of tremendous excitement for the entire Magnus/Alec fandom. It’s the culmination of their journey to date, an inspirational moment like no other, and also still far from the end of the road.

Sometimes, TV shows in general seem to think that once you get engaged or even married, that’s akin to wrapping up the story — but, there’s often so much more. Even if we don’t get to see any more Shadowhunters beyond this season, we envision this engagement, if it happens, being just one stepping stone to many more years worth of epic journeys and adventures that these characters go on. We may have to imagine them in our mind but if we do, we know that they’ll be there.

We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves just yet. For the sake of this episode, let’s just have the engagement happen and we’ll put the focus on some other stuff a little bit further down the road.

What else is going down at the moment?

If you’re a Clary fan, the promo indicates that you absolutely should be concerned with what’s going on with her and Jonathan. She wants to speak to him in his little Hannibal Lecter chamber, but Jace warns her that the closer she gets to him, the more control he’ll have over her. Is she thinking clearly, or is this all a part of a larger plan? The way that the promo sets it up, there is some clear ambiguity there and Jace is worried — heck, we’re worried. We know that the Clary we care about wouldn’t ever want anything to do with this guy, but he’s got a lot of hold over her and that psychological torment is why he is so dangerous.

We’re not sure that this story is going to be over in this episode … but let’s just say that things are gonna get intense!
