The Walking Dead season 10 premiere date hopes on AMC
The first thing that obviously needs to be noted here is that AMC has pushed the big green renewal button already on The Walking Dead … not that there was ever any doubt. While the show is averaging one of its lowest 18-49 ratings ever in a 1.9, consider the following:
1. This is still one of the top-rated cable series out there. The vast majority of these shows would beg and plead to get themselves a 1.0, let alone where The Walking Dead is now with a 1.9.
2. This is also still a show that trimmed down a ton of its most cast this season. Think about all of the mainstays that are gone in Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan, and Alanna Masterson. Based on some reports that are out there, Danai Gurira may be departing during the upcoming season! While AMC did sign Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus to rich new deals, there aren’t any other season 1 mainstays left. (Remember, Chandler Riggs was cut from the equation in season 8, a decision that we will be forever salty about.)
Our primary point here is simply this: While we’ve felt for a while that it could benefit The Walking Dead to announce some specific endgame plans, that doesn’t seem to be something that the folks at the network are interested in. Instead, we’re getting this feeling that they are more than fine to just slowly watch this show quietly wither away until there’s really not all that much of an audience left.

The likely season 10 premiere date
Think in terms of October, though a specific day is really down to whatever AMC decides. We’d grown accustomed to getting the zombie drama back in the middle of the month, but for season 9 the show returned on October 7 — its earliest premiere date ever. That throws a little bit of a wrench into our conventional wisdom, as we’re left with a much larger pool of possible dates this go-around. Sunday, October 6 is a possibility, as is October 13 or the 20th. We don’t foresee the premiere-date coming later than that unless AMC wants to pull some giant reverse-course on some of the stuff that they’ve been doing, mostly because Halloween is zombie season and we’ll really start to wonder if AMC’s executives are zombies themselves if they opt to move away from trying to capitalize on that.
Hopefully, AMC will announce more information on both the premiere date and then also the story a little bit later this summer, when we get around to the big San Diego Comic-Con presentation. We’ve been spoiled over the years with getting to hear more information around that time.
