Shark Tank: Moink, ToyBox, GoalSetter, and Jolly Roger Phone Co.
We’ve got a quick reaction to all of the products below, along with links for you to check them out! (Isn’t that one of the goals if you’re reading up on them?) For some more insight via ABC
First into the Tank are entrepreneurs from Arcadia and Folsom, California, who have a solution to fight back against bothersome telemarketers and scammers. Entrepreneurs from Oakland, California, present their easy-to-use 3D printer for kids to design and print their own toys, while an entrepreneur from New York, New York, pitches her savings and gifting online platform to help kids learn to save. Last into the Tank is an entrepreneur from Labelle, Missouri, who familiarizes the Sharks with her ethical and customizable meat box subscription delivery service.
The Sharks in this episode are Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, Daymond John and Guest Shark Jamie Siminoff.
Jolly Roger Telephone Company – This is an amusing idea to take down telemarketers using this service, as it basically keeps them on the line with pre-recorded messages while you go about your business. We don’t know how in the world someone comes up with an idea like this, but it’s worthy of a laugh from us — but probably not an investment just because in the caller ID era, we don’t even answer the phone unless we know the number.
Moink – There’s a chance you remember Hungry Harvest or some other boxed-food delivery services that are out there. This is one that’s all about meat — chicken, pork, steak, and salmon specifically. What makes it special is that the meat is ethically sourced and exceptionally cared for. It seems like a smart way to get quality meats out there for consumers, but is this so spectacular that people will prefer it over just going to the store? The challenge we’ve always had with these food boxes is that food is such an impulse purchase — it’s hard to plan for it sometimes.
ToyBox – This is basically a 3D printer for kids that allows them to have a number of creations easily at their disposal! It’s billed as one of the last toys you’ll ever need to buy and that may be applicable, given the number of toys that are easily at your disposal. The downside to this as a product seems mainly the hefty price tag — you’re paying well over $250 to just get started with some basic materials. That’s a lot for a product that you don’t even know your kids are going to like.
GoalSetter – This company feels a lot like a virtual piggy bank for people who wanted to make their dreams come true — especially kids. It’s a way for parents to help stay committed to turning these dreams into reality, and to get other friends and family involved in supporting them, as well. It’s more personalized and, presumably, won’t get lost in the shuffle like a GoFundMe. It also feels like a platform meant to last, rather than something meant to be done and executed quickly.
