The Walking Dead season 9 episode 14 previews: ‘Scars’ and secrets

Ready to see The Walking Dead season 9 episode 14? We only have three episodes to go until the end of this season, and that’s a crazy thing to think about since it really feels at this point like the first and second halves are two separate seasons. It just feels like such a different world now with so many new characters, a big-time threat in the form of the Whisperers, and characters still trying to figure out exactly where they’re supposed to fit on the chessboard. Everyone has a move to play and it’s all about finding the right spot in order to play it.

Rather than just simply continuing to take steps forward, though, next week’s “Scars” may be spending a little more of its time working to open up some parts of the past. In particular, this is an episode that feels determined to reveal some old secrets that could cause a community to spiral. For the better part of season 9, there have been promises floating around in the air and proclamations that sooner or later, we’re going to see more time spent on what happened in those years we were away from these characters. Within this episode, we could get to understand some of that a little bit better.

This episode is one that should have a tremendous emotional impact — it could be a firecracker and a foundation for something more. We’ve got the Whisperers this season and a big part of what we’re left to wonder at present is this: Are we going to have a chance to learn a little bit more about the Commonwealth, as well? That seems to be the next evolution within the Walking Dead world, but one of the biggest surprises will be seeing just how the show gets there … if they even do so soon.

(Contrast is a funny thing to ponder over here. We’re at a point now where the show is probably more brutal and filled with carnage than ever; yet, at the same time, we’ve also got something civilized on the horizon potentially. We consider this the producers trying perpetually to throw the survivors off their game and never know what could doom them next.)
