Siren season 2 episode 6 preview: Is a mermaid civil war coming?

Siren - Freeform

On Siren season 2 episode 6, be prepared for something different — and also something contentious and chaotic.

Is it clear at this point that the mermaids are in the minority? We do not think we even need to spell that out. The mermaid pack lives within a state of near-constant survival mode, trying to do and find a way to stay alive. It doesn’t matter whether it is on the surface, or far underneath the water.

What does matter is this: If there are ideological differences splitting the mermaid pack up, the results could be catastrophic. This divides the small pack up even more and creates a sense of jeopardy. Katrina, in particular, is leading a charge — and potentially put the lives of others in jeopardy. It doesn’t matter if they are human or not. This could lead to a heartbreaking, painful conclusion.

To help further set the stage, take a look at the Siren season 2 episode 6 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:

Dale copes with the fallout from Maddie and Ryn’s encounter with the man from Susan’s past, while Katrina continues to persuade the rest of the mermaid pack to get on her side—even if that means brute force against both mermaids and humans

Just in case this does not set the stage for you enough, perhaps the promo below will as you see Katrina separated and intent on achieving her plans. Aesthetically, the show plays up a sense of isolation of darkness — color theory is a big part of this Siren. It’s not only a Breaking Bad level but there are contrasts of darkness and light often within this show. Scary things occur when the setting is dark, still, or mysterious.

Beyond just what lies ahead in the short-term…

It is also still worth considering the long-term future. Siren is operating right now under a slightly-extended season 2 order, and there are still tests it must endure before it is determined whether or not it will achieve that vaunted season 3 renewal.

For now, we do remain hopeful — this series is averaging, at least as of late, a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and then also over 500,000 viewers. These numbers may mark a decline versus the first season, but you must also consider some of the caveats here. For starters, the series premiere does elevate the season 1 average to a far more exorbitant place than you would see otherwise. Meanwhile, enthusiasm is always different for a season 2 in general. You are talking about such notions as momentum and securing viewers in what is, effectively, a fickle time for finding consistent audiences.

The DVR factor

Remember that for every live viewer on a series like this, there are also an abundance of DVR, streaming, and On-Demand viewers. Think of the series’ live viewership as an island in the ocean. There are so many more viewers out there, but in true Siren fashion, you never quite know precisely what is underneath the surface.
