How The Defenders season 2 could still happen away from Netflix

Today, the news was officially confirmed that Jessica Jones and The Punisher are officially canceled. With that, the entire Marvel – Netflix universe is kaput. We’ve gotten a chance to know a lot of these characters really well over the past several years and now, we’ve made it to the end of the road.

Or … have we? We know from Jeph Loeb’s statement earlier today that there’s at least a chance we could see some of these characters again … even if there are no guarantees. Let’s say that there is a way to see The Defenders again with many of the characters together. This is a way to give many of these characters a little bit of closure at once, which may be easier than doing individual shows again. You could also find a way to rope in The Punisher somehow.

So what is the best way in order for this to happen? Below, we’ve got a few different suggestions.

1. A standalone movie – This could be the best way to conclude the stories of many of these characters, given that there would be no limitations based on a streaming provider or network. It doesn’t have to be potentially big-budget and we think that viewers will want to check it out.

2. An animated DVD movie – While it may not be the ideal was for some to wrap up the story, could Marvel go the direct-to-DVD route with some sort of movie featuring these characters, voiced by the stars of the Netflix shows? At least it would be a way to give everyone more closure in some shape or form, and it could be a more affordable option.

3. An actual new series – Obviously, this would be the preference of a number of different people out there, but it’s also the most difficult to pull off. For starters, you have to find the right network in order for it to work. Beyond that, you also have to have the right story and the means to get the cast back. We do think that there would be interest in getting everyone back but, at the same time, you have to act quickly since sooner or later, many of these people are going to move on and find other jobs. They have to do this at some point, since they can’t just wait around for a gig that may or may not be there.

Ultimately, let’s just hope for some sort of announcement ahead.
