Celebrity Big Brother 3 renewal: Will it happen at CBS?

Will it happen? Let’s start with this simple reminder — viewers have a tendency to continue watching this show no matter the quality of the season. While we’ve personally felt that this season is negative and not anywhere near as much fun as season 1, that hasn’t deterred the show all that much in the ratings. It is still bringing in on average a 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic — down less than 15% from season 1. Our feeling is that if you’re keeping 85% of your audience year to year, that’s certainly something worth celebrating. CBS also makes a lot of money selling CBS All Access. Of course, the question that you do have to wonder here is whether or not this all offsets the cost of having to pay the celebrities — they are far costlier than just paying some normal people to enter the house. It’s also for only one month, so there’s less All Access revenue.
The thing we’re a little more concerned about is whether or not there’s going to be interest from reasonably big-name celebrities in coming onto the show. There were some struggles in casting this time, and it feels like this time around, the participants enjoyed the experience a little bit less than they did the first go-around. We don’t know if they are going to want to recommend the show to some of their celebrity friends.
Yet, we think that there will always be some people interested in reclaiming some 15 minutes of fame, and that’s what could make this show appealing. It’s just that finding the right cast is essential to this show’s success and after this season, we do think that they are going to need to get a cast that is rather interesting from the get-go in order to ensure that people get on board.
When could season 3 premiere?
Provided that CBS keeps the same schedule, January 2020 is a nice guess — they could also take a break if they wanted. There’s no reason why this show would be unable to disappear, only to come back a little bit down the line.
