Could Riverdale, The Flash, and Supergirl leave Netflix for new streaming service?
Yet, what we are here to discuss right now is the plans for WarnerMedia (think Warner Bros. TV) to eventually develop a service of their own, one that could eventually host a number of its major properties — which may include everything from Riverdale to The Big Bang Theory to Friends to the entirety of the Arrowverse on The CW. Speaking to reporters today (via Deadline), WarnerMedia Chief Creative Officer Kevin Reilly made it clear what some of his plans are for the service — with the following comments being made in particular about Friends and The Big Bang Theory:
“You can expect the crown jewels of Warner … will ultimately end up on the new service. Sharing destination assets is not a good model. My belief is they should be exclusive to the service.”
Both Friends and The Big Bang Theory were both included in promotional materials for the still-unnamed platform.
As for much of Warner Bros. TV’s CW programming, Reilly noted that they are also very interested in bringing much of that over to the new platform, as well. Even though there’s an output deal at the moment in America for many of these shows, there is no guarantee that this could last forever.
Moving a show like Riverdale, which found much of its audience thanks to Netflix, could be somewhat of a risky gambit. While you do want to control some of your own assets, at the same exact time you run the risk of losing a little bit of steam for some of your shows. You don’t know how some of these shows are going to fare outside of Netflix, so it is a risk to move them — it could pay off, but there is certainly no guarantee of anything.
Luckily, we don’t think that there’s going to be any movement immediately of some of the Netflix – CW shows to the streaming service. We foresee them being there until at least Warner’s service gets off the ground, and it may be a little while after that before they become a permanent part of a lineup elsewhere.

What do you think about the idea of so many shows moving to yet another streaming service — is all of it too much, and would you rather seem them be a little more concentrated on just a few? Be sure to share right now in the comments. (Photo: The CW.)
