A Million Little Things finale spoilers: Moving forward; stepping back

Today, ABC unveiled some of their first details on the A Million Little Things finale, which is coming up on February 28. What can you expect to see? Well, perhaps more so than anything, a move to try and look beyond Jon’s death. It’s been a focal point for most of the season, but this episode could be carrying with it an awareness that not everyone can be transfixed on one key event forever. In life, some questions never have answers, and sooner or later you will end up forever chasing a ghost on your search for answers.

While the search for resolution on Jon may prove to be fruitless, there may be a chance for some answers elsewhere — think Barbara Morgan. One character’s actions here could set up sweeping change on the show, and a cliffhanger that could get a lot of people talking by the closing minutes of the episode.

With questions still lingering around Jon’s death, his loved ones try to move on, each taking meaningful steps forward in their own lives. As most of them begin to accept that they may never get the explanation they desire, an unexpected member of the group decides to dig even further into the mystery behind Barbara Morgan.

Should you anticipate a cliffhanger?

Probably. While A Million Little Things was renewed long after the finale would’ve been planned out/written, this is a show that does rely on a certain degree of mystery. If there is no mystery coming out of the finale, there is no hook for the future. The only scenario in which we do not expect this show having a cliffhanger is whenever we get a definite final season. If the writers knew that they were absolutely writing the series finale at the time they are in the room, at that point we think that they’d present something a little bit more definitive. We just don’t think that we’re anywhere near that point.

The crummy thing for some fans is that we’re going to have this finale arrive later this month, and then you’ll probably have to wait until later on in the fall to see the resolution for it … and that’s being hopeful. It’s always possible, albeit unlikely, that ABC could wait to bring the show back until later in the 2019-20 TV season.
