Ratings notes: ‘Dexter,’ ‘Homeland,’ ‘New Girl,’ and ‘Revolution’
Now that the fall season is officially under way, we have an assortment of ratings-related stories to share; so rather than making you navigate through individual links trying to find all of them, we figure it’s better to include them all in one handy article.
Really, our primary topic of conversation here is going to be based on two breaking stories: the success of Showtime Sunday night, and the first Live+3 numbers of the entire season.
Showtime wins big – So much for all of the people angrily protesting “Dexter” after a subpar sixth season. Maybe it was the fact that Deb found out his secret, but something managed to bring in the largest audience ever for a premiere to the show on Sunday night. Overall, the stellar installment was watched by 2.4 million viewers and just over 3 on the night. It’s rare that you see a show set ratings records in its seventh season, so you have to give a round of applause for that.
Meanwhile, the second-season premiere of “Homeland” was also a winner, as it scored a series high 1.73 million viewers and 2.07 million on the night likely thanks to the show’s recent win at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards.
“Revolution,” as well – We’ve always had a conflicted relationship when it comes to DVR numbers. Why? While it’s nice to see that certain shows have a much larger audience than it initially appears, it also really doesn’t mean that much unless you can convince the people to watch live or actually sit through the commercials. Even though “Revolution” has to be pleased that their Monday rating spiked up 51% from its initial 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic to an incredible 5.2, the number will mean more if keeps the 3.5 going into tonight’s new episode.
On the comedy front, both episodes of “New Girl” last week scored big in jumping up 38% to finish with (natch) a 3.8 rating. This does make the show look a little bit better as Fox’s terrible move to put a two-hour comedy block on Tuesday has left it stranded without much of a lead-in.
