Shadowhunters season 3 spoilers: Malec dance scene talk!

Shadowhunters season 3 premiere

While it may have been just a tiny tease during the recent Shadowhunters season 3 trailer, many fans took notice of Magnus and Alec dancing. How could you not? It’s one of potentially many great Malec moments coming up this season, and we have a little bit more insight about it within this piece.

Let’s start off here with when you can actually see this scene unfold on the show itself — season 3 episode 16, which is several episodes within the upcoming run of the show. This was confirmed in a post on Twitter via showrunner Todd Slavkin, who had nothing but great things to say about the scene.

Speaking via TV Guide while at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, here is some of what Harry Shum Jr. (who has plenty of dance experience under his belt already) had to say about filming the moment with Matthew Daddario:

“It was fun because we got to see Matt Daddario turn white when he found out he had to dance … But you know what? Surprisingly, he’s really good! You know when you watch Dancing with the Stars and you see athletes dance, some just like can’t and some can because they have rhythm… he took on that side, and once he understood — you had to explain it to him in sports terms, and when you did that he was like great! He picked everything up really quickly… I kind of said, ‘You have to memorize it, it’s muscle memory,’ and then when he factored that into it, it just became something that was — he took it on.”

We certainly think that this could end up being one of the most notable scenes of the entire twelve episodes coming up, so it’s a good thing everything went so smoothly behind the scenes on it! What we appreciate more than anything is that the cast seems to be so aware of what moments are going to mean the most to fans and with that in mind, they put their all into them and don’t worry as much about any potential fears. We can all relate to Daddario given that it’s so difficult to put yourself in a situation where you’re not experienced, such as dancing in front of a ton of people (we can really relate with him on that one!). Yet, he put himself out there and was game to make this scene great for all of us.
