Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 renewal odds: The current state of things
The first thing that we should say here before anything is rather simple: We think that the network wants for there to be more of the Andy Samberg series. After all, they would not have saved it had they just wanted it for a small batch of episodes! We think that they have broader aspirations for the series, especially since they’ve upped the episode count since they first decided to bring it back.
As for whether or not the ratings to date are validating the decision to bring the show back, we’d say so. To date, season 6 is averaging a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and almost three million viewers. It’s the performance in the latter that is perhaps the most impressive, as the show is up more than a whopping 50% from what it was pulling over at Fox in season 5. This is a great reminder that sometimes, being on the right network makes all of the difference. Tonally, Brooklyn Nine-Nine just makes more sense over at NBC, and it is also helpful that Samberg is somewhat of a home-grown star there because of his time on Saturday Night Live.
Do we expect the ratings to slide through the rest of the season? Probably, if for no other reason than that ratings often do fall as you get closer to the spring and viewers start going outside more and doing other things. Yet, they’re going to have to fall pretty dramatically for this show to be down in the ratings versus its last season at Fox. We just don’t see that happening and from that vantage point alone, we consider this revival to be a success.
What does this mean for our renewal hopes?
For now, we’re pretty hopeful as we look towards the future. Of course, it is still super-early and it would be reckless to say that we’re extremely confident in what the future holds in regards to the show. Yet, this is probably going to be one of those instances where so long as the cast and producers want to keep going for at least one more season, the show probably will. We’re not sure if it has a life after season 7, though, since that is typically the time actors renegotiate contracts and show’s get essentially significantly more expensive.
