Law & Order: SVU season 20 spoilers: Dean Winters returning
Winters has been at work on the show’s New York set as of late (you can see via his Instagram a photo of himself alongside Mariska Hargitay) — while it’s not 100% clear as of yet why Cassidy is being brought back, we know that he’s one of the strongest foils out there for Olivia Benson. The two have quite a long history and there’s always going to be fireworks anytime they go toe to toe. They’ve had to square off at times, though at others they’ve been on the same page. Olivia’s certainly helped Cassidy at various points in the past. He is the sort of guy who tends to have some self-destructive tendencies and has a hard time staying out of his own way. It’s a key part of what makes the character who he is — he’s flawed in a way that some characters on the show aren’t.
One of the things that we could be seeing on SVU coming up over the next several weeks is finding a way to use guest stars with character-specific stories to make it through the maternity leave of Kelli Giddish’s Amanda Rollins, who will be welcoming her baby soon. We know that Jennifer Esposito will be coming up for at least one episode, and there could be some other notable guest stars that follow her and Winters in the future. We still have a long way to go with this season, and because of that, there are probably a number of guest stars who are still very much under wraps. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about some of them as we move a little bit forward into the season.
New episodes of SVU return after a brief hiatus tonight, so be sure to check back soon with some more discussion on “A Story of More Woe.” This is going to be a twisted case involving family, where two daughters may have been involved in a heinous crime involving their father. Given that this is SVU, expect a few twists.
