‘The Vampire Diaries’: Ian Somerhalder honored at Environmental Media Awards

Even though “The Vampire Diaries” has been rather busy as of late shooting their fourth season in Atlanta, Ian Somerhalder managed to get an opportunity this weekend to fly across the country to be honored for some of his contributions away from the world of acting: in particular, we are talking about just what he does in order to help the environment.

Anyone who follows Ian on Twitter already knows that he is the founder of his own foundation to help fight all sorts of environmental issues, and he also is an outspoken advocate of other causes. With all of this in mind, it really should not come as too great of a surprise to anyone that he was one of the people Honored at the Environmental Media Awards on Saturday night. Before the show, he posted the following message about this very subject:

“On my way the Environmental Media Awards-being awarded The Futures Award!!!! This IS b/c of you Twitterverse and ISF family! Thank you”

Some of the other people who were honored during the awards included the likes of Jessica Alba, and Malin Akerman (who recently revealed that she is pregnant) hosted the proceedings. Some of the other people who were in attendance for the show included “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen, “Revenge’s” Emily VanCamp, and former “American Idol” and “X Factor” judge Paula Abdul.

We will start to see some more of Ian on TV when the latest season of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres on The CW Thursday, October 11; but even while we wait, be sure to keep checking back here for some more of the latest news related to the show.
