Darci Lynne – We kick off tonight with a performance from a former reigning champion, and certainly one of the more popular people who has been on this show. Darci is exceptional at what she does — delivering impressive vocals and ventriloquism at the same time! Nobody can do what she does, and her performance with Oscar tonight is proof of that.
Ashleigh & Sully – We had every reason in the world to love this — Ashleigh & Pudsey were one of the most entertaining Britain’s Got Talent acts ever and Sully perfectly followed suit. The tricks were fun, the routine was smart, and we do like that there was some sort of theme here. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Sully is supremely adorable.
Light Balance – We’re not 100% certain that this performance was on another level from what we’ve seen before, but at the same time there’s no questioning just how incredible they are as performers. From start to finish there was so much energy here, and we do think they’re probably one of the acts most worthy of their own Vegas show — we think that this group is ELECTRIC live.
Taylor Williamson – We love the fact that he went there with some of his jokes, including being more profitable than Bill Cosby and the judges stealing jobs from other Americans. Taylor’s an acquired taste — his objective is to make people uncomfortable before they start laughing. He’s brilliant at it, but we do think he has a bigger up hill battle.
Cristina Ramos – There are very few people who can do what she does, which is infuse opera music with rock. She won the Spanish version of the Got Talent franchise for a reason. It was smart for the show to not really give away what she can do before she started actually performing. Was this too over-the-top for this show? We certainly did wonder that going into this.
DDF Crew – We feel for these guys to a certain degree. We do think that they’re exceptional at what they do, but at the same time it’s a different standard on the American version of the show. What they did that worked for them in Holland just didn’t come off the same in America.
Viktor Kee – We do think that Viktor is one of the best jugglers who has ever been on America’s Got Talent ever. The sad reality here is that someone like Viktor is almost certainly never going to win this show, so what matters more is that he can elevate his craft to a level that it hasn’t been at before. He certainly did that here.
Courtney Hadwin – She’s always been fantastic, but what we loved about her performance tonight was that she did an original song for the first time. We got a good sense as to who she could be as an artist and also just how relevant she could be in the modern-day pop scene. Courtney is awesome, and this was just further validation of it.
Deadly Games – What Alfredo did with the phone and the crossbow is by far the most incredible thing we’ve seen on this show. That was crazy. For all danger acts, this is pinnacle. They also got the Golden Buzzer! Read more about that here.
Piff the Magic Dragon – He’s as fun of a magician as you’re going to find — he has a great sense of humor, he’s wonderfully dry, and his tricks are super-creative … even if they often involve either dog food and/or dog poop. We do think that Piff has at least some sort of chance of moving forward.
The results
The top three tonight were Courtney Hadwin, Cristina Ramos, and then Darci Lynne. The act who ended up moving forward was … Cristina!
