Black Mirror: Bandersnatch sequel (or at a least a similar idea) is possible
In speaking in a new interview with TVLine, Brooker confirmed that he and Annabel Jones said many times during production that they would never do this again. Yet, time makes you forget about some of the struggles and when you are able to do something that is this unique, we think that this does open up the possibility that you could do something a little bit similar down the road.
Brooker did confirm that there were a number of different ideas that could work for the format, but you have to find the right one to actually go through the process of making it happen — really regardless of if you’re doing something with the Black Mirror name attached to it or not:
I can think of many things things you could do — maaaaany things you could do, and approaches you could take. But the key is you need to find a good reason to be doing it like that. This is not anything new, but the fact that it’s on Netflix is new. But you’d have to have a good reason, just as if you were doing a musical, for this to be the core of it.
Our feeling is that we are going to see something more in this vein, but probably not for at least another year or so. If it doesn’t come from Brooker, Jones, or anyone else in the team, it feels very much likely that someone else is going to snatch up the property and do something a little bit different with it. There’s just too much potential here for this time be completely abandoned and moved away from — plus, we think that every single person out there in the entertainment industry saw how much attention Bandersnatch got on social media when it first aired at the end of last season. That’s something that they likely are going to want to replicate down the line.
As we’ve learned, though, it takes a lot of time to get a project like this off the ground — you’re basically having to make enough footage for several movies, even if it’s only running for about 90 minutes to two hours in a single playthrough with certain choices.
What do you think — should we get some sort of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch follow-up that is related to it in some way? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments.
