Good Trouble episode 2 preview: Hayden Byerly returns as Jude
At the moment, it’s clear that the Freeform series is very much intent on trying to be its own show and do its own thing; it’s not trying to just replicate some of the stories of the original show and that’s something we really appreciate. There were a lot of characters, Jude included, who weren’t even mentioned in the premiere. With that being said, Jude is going to be back moving into episode 2 and with that, we’re exciting to see how he fits in to the fabric of the show. Some time will have passed since the events of The Fosters series finale and he’ll be at a new spot in his life. That could be fun, but there could also be some drama — there often is with this show. With Callie, she could be running into some trouble where her personal life ends up impacting her professional life.

The residents of the Coterie throw an epic party, which Jude attends. Callie puts aside work for one evening to finally let loose and enjoy herself, but will it put her job as a law clerk in jeopardy? Meanwhile, Mariana tries to make friends with her new co-workers since she still feels like an outsider. Alice gets some upsetting news about her ex-girlfriend, Sumi, while Malika is confronted by her foster care past.
When it comes to Mariana’s storyline, we hope that this episode gives you a proper chance to fully explore the notion that some people within her job are genuinely good, caring people — they’re not all misogynistic or dismissive to her because she’s either new or a woman. There may be some people at this job who are just inherently shy (which can come across in a negative way sometimes) but over time their shell will start to break and she can actually get a chance to properly know them. We do think that this is an opportunity for her and we just have to get to a point where it presents itself.
Finally, it does seem as though this episode will allow you to get a better sense of some of what’s going on with the other residents of the Coterie, which is important if you are going to continue to feature them as a major part in this story.
