Chicago Med season 4 spoilers: What’s coming up for Dr. Charles?

Basically, in the second part of the year, we’re going to experience the character’s past and present almost at the same time, and through the lens of his romantic life. Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Diane Frolov notes that the writers are “going to have Charles dating … We’re going to go into his past relationships, particularly with Robin’s mom.” Maybe we’ll learn more as to why some of his past relationships didn’t work out, and also actually have an opportunity to see him have a little bit of fun moving forward into the future. We’re down for a more lighthearted Dr. Charles story, especially since he’s been dealing on some level with the aftermath of what happened with Dr. Reese at the end of this past season. If you recall, she departed the hospital at the start of the season after feeling as though her mentor deceived and betrayed her.
In the big picture of things, what we like about Dr. Charles’ personal life being explored is that it’s a reminder that it’s never too late to get back out there. We do think that, in this era of ‘shipping, it’s nice to have older characters represented on some level. Of course, having a good romantic story arc does require more than just one person, so the success of this story could depend largely on who some of the people are who are thrust into Dr. Charles’ life.
Speaking of Robin…
Frolov and Andrew Schneider told CarterMatt last year that we would see Mekia Cox back as the character, who has quite a history with Dr. Rhodes in her own right. This could come back to the forefront with her return, but it’s certainly a different dynamic now given that Connor has moved on and is now in a relationship with Dr. Bekker. Could we see some jealousy on her part, or at least some tension between all of the parties involved? We do think that this is a possibility.
