Law & Order: SVU season 20: First look at Mark Feuerstein appearance

Law & Order: SVU season 20 is returning with new episodes on Thursday, January 10, and the first episode back will be notable. After all, you will see Royal Pains star Mark Feuerstein on board for a role that is very different from who you know him to be.

In this episode (and as previously reported), you will see Feuerstein play a prominent New York City plastic surgeon, someone who is accused of sexually-based assault by a young woman (Willa Fitzgerald, who also appeared on Royal Pains). In addition to Feuerstein’s character, the apparent victim here is also accusing his girlfriend (Alyssa Sutherland) of being involved.

The photo below (via TVLine) gives you a small sense of what is coming in terms of a showdown between Feuerstein’s character, his attorney, and Amanda Rollins, who is still going to be doing whatever she can in order to make sure that justice is served. There are elements to this investigation that we have certainly seen before; most notably, we are watching an extremely powerful man who may try to use some of that to do whatever he wants without fail. The challenge for the SVU team is clearly going to come in showing him that he doesn’t just have the power that he likes to think he does.

You always want a show like this, especially since it has been off the air for so long, to come back and deliver a memorable case right away. On the surface, this one has the makings of it — having a big-name guest star certainly does help to generate a little more conversation.

What’s next for Mark Feuerstein?

It’s something that we definitely wonder upon seeing this. The actor was a part last season of the short-lived family comedy 9JKL, which was a foray into something a little bit different format-wise from Royal Pains. Other than seeing more of that show (which we would welcome in any form), we think that it would be great to see him do some sort of big ensemble drama. SVU roles do tend to be a great stepping stone for some other stuffs, so here’s to hoping that this is a transition to some other news that could come out during pilot season.

Over the next few months in general, be prepare to hear some assorted announcements all about new shows and castings. Maybe his name is going to surface in there somewhere.
