Outlander season 4: Exec on Roger’s difficult struggle

Outlander

As we move into the home stretch of Outlander season 4, one thing is clear for Richard Rankin’s character of Roger: He’s in trouble. His life is in jeopardy coming out of what happened and, beyond just that, it’s going to be rather tough for him to get back to Fraser’s Ridge now.

For those who need a quick refresher on what happened, at the end of tonight’s episode you saw Jamie beat roger to a pulp, thinking that he was the person responsible for assaulting his daughter. He didn’t realize that it was Stephen Bonnet because Lizzie, who clued him in on what she knew, didn’t realize that it was Stephen Bonnet. She saw Roger with Bree and with that in mind, she jumped to this particular conclusion.

So where is the series going to go moving forward now? Well, Roger is set to embark on a rather-unique but also rather challenging journey, one where he’s going to have to find a way to both survive and convince someone like Young Ian (if he is even conscious) that he is not the person that he believes him to be.

In speaking via The Hollywood Reporter on the subject of some of what happened, here is what executive producer Maril Davis had to say:

“Poor Roger! We’re about to set Roger on an unfortunate trajectory … Roger, poor Roger. He has had the worst journey – and certainly so has Brianna. He was forced back onto Stephen Bonnet’s ship and had the falling out with Brianna, and then he came to Fraser’s Ridge only to not even get two words out before he’s violently beaten by who he assumes could be Brianna’s father. The repercussions of that are tragic.”

For those who know the book series, there is some amazing material coming for Roger that will test him and, in turn, test the relationship between Roger and Brianna. While these two have struggled at times with their relationship, at the same time we do think what they’ve went through will actually make them a little bit stronger on the other side.

What we are confident in saying right now is this: Roger is not going anywhere. He’s being faced with some major adversity, but this is far from the end of his story.
